What is Mentorship
Mentorship is a key component of the education and professional development of ACMG guides and instructors. Mentorship fosters networking, supports the development of technical and soft skills and helps to provide advice and guidance pertaining to topics outside of the regular examination/teaching curriculum. The topics include but are not limited to career planning, networking, work-life balance, practical skills, equipment knowledge, hard skills and client care. Mentorship is a mutually beneficial endeavor as both parties have the opportunity to learn and develop as guides and members of our ACMG community.
The shared passion and commitment to learning and development is enhanced by inviting the experience and wisdom of a mentor to inspire and channel the enthusiasm and excitement of the mentee.
Mentor
Are you an experienced mountain professional? Are you a good communicator and an active participant in the profession? Do you have strong interpersonal and leadership skills? Are you interested in challenging and encouraging a less experienced member of the guiding community? Whether you have been an ACMG member for 3 years or 50 years, becoming a Mentor to someone new could be the next step in your participation and development as an active member of our ACMG community!
As a mentor, you are expected to:
- Be an experienced, certified member who willingly shares experiences, advice and stories with mentees
- Provide guidance only in your area of certification
- Be able to develop a strong relationship of trust and mutual respect with your mentee
- Mentors can be mentors in one stream and also be mentees in another stream.
- Give honest and constructive feedback to your mentee
Note that, as a mentor in one area, you are able to be a mentee in another area
