Dismissal of Lawsuit
Tuesday, February 18, 2020
Sylvia Forest & Peter Tucker

As most of you know, the ACMG was one of four named parties in a lawsuit stemming from the avalanche fatality at Golden Alpine several years ago. A few days ago, the plaintiff filed a notice of discontinuance of the suit against all parties.

While this is good news for everyone involved, it does not in any way let the ACMG off the hook around our intentions of improving our post-incident processes. A request for proposal is out to the public, looking for someone to draft recommendations for how the ACMG must act after a serious incident. We hope to have someone hired by the end of March.

While it may seem as though there is cause for relief, we must remember that someone died in that accident. The lives of those involved were forever altered and relationships were irrevocably destroyed by that terrible tragedy. It is a possibility we all face whenever we take people into risky arenas – a sobering thought we must always hold forefront in our minds.

Take care and choose wisely out there.

Sylvia Forest – ACMG President
Peter Tucker – ACMG Executive Director
